Skerton Community Centre
The brief for the Skerton Community Centre in Lancaster, a project currently underway, is to create an enclosed garden of flowers, fruit and vegetables. The garden is designed with raised beds accessible to people with disabilities, and will provide special sensory seating areas. It will also demonstrate growing food in small urban spaces with the use of espalier fruit trees, vines, and soft fruit—all underplanted with herbs and flowering groundcover plants. The fenced garden will be surrounded with native flowering berry hedges to attract birds and other beneficial insects.
